Oregon romantic getaways in Ashland, Oregon
A beautiful city for Oregon romantic getaways is Ashland, home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. I went there once as a young teenager with a traveling theater group (played one of the fairies in Midsummer Night’s Dream–the highlight of my theater career!), but would love to return now as a young adult. Of course this is an ideal city for theater and literature lovers–you cannot take two steps without running into some Shakespearean pun or reference. One of my favorite examples was this sign on a restaurant: “Lord what food these morsels be!”
There are charming shops full of books, knick-knacks and souvenirs, great restaurants, several theaters (of course) including a replica of the Globe in London, and lovely parks. I remember one delicious fudge shop in particular where we picked up treats after performances. I am sure there are also nice lodgings ranging from the simple bed-and-breakfast to fancy hotels.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are also lots of opportunities hor hiking, biking, and white water river rafting. The weather there is beautiful all summer long and into the fall–as the Shakespeare Festival continues. The Festival not only includes classics by the Bard, but also contemporary plays. The productions are sometimes very traditional, and sometimes very modern. Ashland is a unique city for an Oregon getaway, and especially fun if you like a very touristy atmosphere. If you love live theater, than it is definitely a destination you should explore on one of your Oregon romantic getaways.
