Portland and Eugene are two of the best bicycling cities in the country which make for exceptional romantic Oregon getaways. Eugene offers the better bicycling options with nearly one hundred miles of dedicated and paved bike trails winding through the city. The primary bike trail is along the Willamette River which stretches nearly fifty miles, including spurs and offshoots. Imagine waking at a river front hotel, enjoying a cup of local organic roasted coffee and fresh produce, then cycling and a couple of hours before stopping at an all organic restaurant for lunch. The city of Eugene is fairly flat in the main downtown, waterfront, and north part of town. Non-friendly biking begins on the south end of town with steep hills only for seasoned cyclists.
An Oregon romantic getaway in Portland can be just as appealing with a fairly flat downtown area, waterfront, and a fairly flat east side. The west hills of Portland can be treacherous for cyclists with narrow winding roads, and the city has few dedicated bike pathways. While the east side of town is cozy for walking and cycling, the city of Portland can not claim the easy access of Eugene. To enhance a cycling romantic getaway to either city, there are many excellent bike shops with weekend rentals. You can easily fly into PDX, take the MAX light rail transit to your downtown hotel, and walk to a local bike shop and be ready to begin your romantic getaway adventure.
